In this class you will be taught the technique of Machine Paper-Basting
You will add a border to the star block, Sandwich the block, in 3x layers
Machine Quilting in continues lines and Hand Quilting with long stitches
Class requirements :
- Sewing machine: Serviced, Cleaned, Oiled and in good working condition, with all the equipment that you will need to finish this project. An extension table, if you have one.
- Machine feet:
- Normal sewing foot, and a walking foot or foot that will be suitable for quilting.
- Open toe foot.
- Needles:
- Quilting needles as well as new, sharp universal needles that is suitable for your machine.
- Thread:
- A good thread to match your fabric. Thread to use for continues quilting. (I prefer a good cotton thread. Gutermann or Aurifil.)
- Thread to use for long Quilting stitches done by hand. Any Cotton Perlé No5 or crochet yarn, no8. (Do not buy, I have plenty that you can choose from. Will bring to class)
- Rotary cutter with new, sharp blade
- Cutting mat (A turn table cutting mat will be perfect for this project, only if you already have one)
- Rulers 6” x 24” and 6” x 12”
- Sharp pins
- Notebook and pencil
- Iron – small or big as well as extra plugs and leads
- Pair of Scissors
- Seam Ripper
- Cushion to sit on
- Own Lunch
Fabric:
- Two contrasting colours, or a Light and a Dark fabric. The star is the focus of the block and has to stand out.
- Strip of fabric to use as first frame around the star block. 2” x 32”
- Second frame, 2½ x 40”
- Piece of batting 21” x 21”
- Piece of backing 22” x22” (I used calico or any thin fabric)
