Make a cloth book to hold your mementos. The book folds into six pages and has two pockets to hold extra items. You will first construct the book by stitching along the folds and at the same time secure the batting or wadding. Then you will embellish the pages with special objects or precious textiles or old linens that hold memories. You can also use family or travel photographs. The possibilities are endless. Finally, the edges are finished off with hand stitch.
Bring to the workshop:
Two strips of neutral fabric (off white, or black) pre-cut to 6 inches x 40 inches. If you are brave, and have a special brocade or velvet fabric that you wish to use, then cut one of the strips in this fabric. Note: cotton or linen is easier to work with.
A strip of batting, interfacing, or flannel for the inner, also pre-cut to 6 x 40 inches.
No 12. Perle thread.
Fine needles (Milliner’s or Embroidery no. 9)
The treasures that you wish to include in the book. Consider trinkets at the bottom of your jewelry box, special buttons, beads, brooches, badges, unfinished embroideries, special threads, etc.
