Students will explore different materials and techniques to create an abstract fibre art piece in this fun workshop.
Preparation of recycled teabags for stitching, burning in layers with a soldering iron, heat treatment of chiffon & organza with a candle, playing with Lutradur, interesting edge finishes and finally, the mounting of fibre art onto an artist canvas.

Requirements:
1.   30cm x 30cm cotton fabric for foundation.
2.   40cm x 40cm cotton to cover all areas of the artist canvas – matching to rooibos teabag colour will work well.
3.   30cm x 30cm loomtex batting.
4.   30cm x 30cm backing fabric (will not be visible at all!)
5.   10” x 10” artist canvas – 15mm thickness was used for the sample.
6.   20cm light weight appliqué paper.
7.   Thread to stitch teabags onto foundation – Mettler Cotton 9853.

8.   Matching thread to backing fabric for bobbin.
9.   Perle embroidery yarns – bring what is in your stash.
10. Pencil, eraser, school ruler, pen, notebook, sharpener, blue washout marker, white marker.
11.  Long straight pins.
12.  Crewel needles in different sizes for hand sewing.
13.  Universal No 80 machine needles.
14.  Scissors – paper, fabric and embroidery with very sharp points
15.  Thimble
16.  25cm embroidery hoop - optional
17.  Small soldering iron (optional – one will be available in class to share)
18.  Mask to protect against toxic fumes when burning synthetic fabrics.
19.  Tweezers (if you have)
20.  5 litre ice cream tub lid to paint on.
21.  Iron and board
22.  Sewing machine with all accessories, plugs & adaptors, extension table, manual - machine clean and oiled.
23.  Machine feet – straight stitch, darning or quilting foot, cording (optional), zipper
24.  A sense of adventure!
