Claire Wallace

Claire grew up in England surrounded by family that enjoyed all kinds of crafts.  Her Mum and Grandmothers had tried their hands at virtually every craft you can name and as a child Claire enjoyed learning from them. Quilting was not something she had tried, although her Mum always had a Welsh Quilt on her bed made by her grandmother.  Claire was introduced to quilting by her husband’s Grandmother and Aunt in about 2005 and the rest is history.

It didn’t take her long to realise that she loved piecing quilts, but her real interest lay in free motion quilting and how simple quilt tops were utterly transformed by the quilting stitches.

She bought her first longarm quilting machine in October 2009 and has quilted for customers ever since.  She has been fortunate to be able to travel to America to attend shows and learn from expert Longarm quilters on five occasions.

She started Quiltastix (named by her daughter Amy, because quilting is Fantastix) in 2010 and has been the Sole Distributor of Handi Quilter machines and products since 2013.  She has also experienced considerable success in both local and international shows where several of her quilts have been awarded top prizes.

Her goal is to spread the word about Free Motion Quilting in South Africa, both using Domestic machines and Longarm machines, and to offer tuition and resources that improve skills and make the process of free motion quilting both accessible and enjoyable.
